Review of the Saatva Classic mattress

Our Verdict

Saatva Classic is the flagship innerspring mattress. It offers premium comfort and support at a fraction of the price of its higher-end counterparts. A plush pillow top offers soft cushioning for your whole body. The double layer of coils provides lumbar support and a little bounce. This mattress was a delight to sleep on. Saatva Classic is an innerspring mattress that is very popular and the most preferred model of Saatva Sleep, New York. Saatva was one of the first to enter the luxury online mattress market.

Saatva's low pricing is possible due to the fact that it's almost entirely an online-only company, with one exception in New York. The brand claims that it doesn't have to pay any storefront fees and will instead invest those huge savings in materials and manufacturing. The Saatva Classic's cost is certainly impressive for its quality and materials.

The Saatva Classic mattress, even compared to other brands, is the most popular and affordable. It has three firmness options and can be customized in depth (either 11.5 or 14.5 inches). The company has received numerous industry awards, including approval from Congress of Chiropractic State Associations and a sustainability award.

What's the mattress like to actually sleep on? To help you choose the right mattress, we reviewed the Saatva Classic (luxury-firm version). Two of our reviewers used the Classic (luxury-firm) for two weeks. The Saatva Classic (luxury-firm) was tested by two other reviewers for more than a year, including during pregnancy.

You can try the Saatva Classic mattress by taking a 180-night test drive. You also get free delivery and setup in your bedroom, as well as a 15-year warranty. Saatva will even remove your old mattress free of charge. Saatva has many great offers, so make sure to keep an eye on their mattress sales and discounts guide.

What is the Saatva Classic Mattress?

  1. Luxury innerspring luxury mattress
  2. There are three comfort levels: firm, medium firm and soft.
  3. 11.5 or 14.5 inches deep
  4. Standard white glove delivery

Saatva Classic hybrid innerspring mattress is made with eco-friendly foams, and durable dual steel coil support systems. This is the most loved mattress by Saatva. It provides optimal spine support and reduces back and joint pain.

The Saatva Classic mattress is unique in that it offers a wide range of customization options. It is available in twin sizes, as well as split California king sizes. There are two depth options - 11.5 and 14.5 inches. You can also choose from three firmness levels: medium (Saatva calls this 'plush soft), medium ('luxury soft'), and firm. We tested the luxury firm 11.5 inch version of the Saatva Classic mattress for our review.

3 different comfort levels

Saatva Classic plush soft is 3 out 10 (soft). Side sleepers, light-weight people, and people who like a soft mattress are best.

Saatva Classic Luxury Firm: 5-7 out 10 (medium company). Ideal for: Most people, back pain; couples with differing preferences

Saatva Classic firm: 8/10 (firm). Ideal for: Lower back pain, neck pain, stomach sleepers and larger body types.

Saatva's other key advantage is that, unlike its online-only competitors, the Saatva Classic mattress doesn't come in a box. It will arrive on your doorstep unrolled.

Saatva instead offers white glove delivery for free. A local shipping company will deliver and set up your mattress in your room, and then remove it if necessary. This makes it easier, but also means Saatva can give Classic more springs that bed-in-a box mattresses. The Classic will feel more traditional and bouncier. (More about that later.

Five distinct features are found in the Saatva Classic. A luxury Euro pillow cover made of organic cotton offers more cushioning than standard pillows. It has an antimicrobial fabric treatment that helps it stay fresh.

The next layer is made up of 14.5-gauge individually wrapped coils that contour to your body. This provides tailored support and eases pressure points while also reducing motion transfer.

They are placed on top of strong, durable 13-gauge tempered Steel support coils. These have been oven-heated and help prevent the mattress's from sagging. These two layers of coil create a dual support system that allows air to flow through the mattress and keeps you cool at night.

Two back support enhancements are located in the middle of the Saatva Classic Mattress to increase pressure relief. The active wire support provides Saatva's "lumbar zone" technology, while the memory foam layer helps to relieve tension in your lower back.

A foam encasement wraps around your mattress to provide edge support and stabilize it.

Saatva mattresses include a 180-night risk free trial so that you can decide if the Classic is right. Saatva will return the mattress to you if you decide to throw it out. You can exchange your mattress for a firmer or deeper one for $99 during the trial period.

Saatva mattresses come with a 15-year non-prorated warranty. If there is a defect in the mattress within the first two year, Saatva will replace it for free. Saatva will replace or repair your mattress in years three to fifteen for a $99 transportation fee.

Review of the Saatva Classic mattress in short

  1. Saatva's most luxurious luxury mattress
  2. Amazing pressure relief
  3. Excellent edge support

Saatva Classic, a luxury innerspring mattress made from a hybrid of coils and foam, is available from US company Saatva. The mattress combines a dual layer coil with CertiPUR US certified premium high density foam. This gives you true comfort. It is available in three firmnesses: Luxury Firm, Plush Soft, and Firm.

The Saatva Classic mattress is the flagship of the brand's innerspring collection and also the most affordable. The medium-firm Saatva Latex Hybrid is next in the range. It adds natural latex and organic yarn to the layers. Finally, the Saatva HD is the top innerspring range. This mattress delivers great comfort (and a very affordable price at just $1,574). The Saatva HD includes all the same features of the Saatva Classic, but it also has high-density memory, natural latex, and 12.5 gauge tempered stainless steel coils for maximum support, stability, and cosiness.

The Saatva Classic isn't as expensive or has more layers than the Saatva HD but the brand claims it still has plenty of value. The Saatva Classic is also a top-selling online luxury innerspring. We decided to try it out to see if it was worth the extra effort.

This mattress was very comfortable right from the beginning. Although the luxury firm version was firmer that we expected, it didn't affect the comfort. It offered high levels of support and cushioning for pressure points and general posture. Although it was comfortable and kept us cool, motion transfer can be an issue. A memory foam mattress may be better if you have a restless partner.

Our reviewer described the mattress as'sleeping on top' and not sinking too much. This was true 12 months later, even though the Saatva Classic did start to soften a bit. Edge support was strong and did not show any signs of weakness. The mattress's pressure relief was a strong feature that our reviewer found to be one of its strongest attributes. It was apparent from the first night, and it is still very effective months later.

The Saatva Classic comes flat, just like a regular mattress. It comes with all the same benefits as premium mattresses in a box, including an 180-night trial. Saatva will deliver your mattress to your home free of charge and also set it up in your room. Saatva Classic comes with a 15 year warranty.

Saatva mattress: Price

  1. It is cheaper than luxury competitors
  2. Regular discounts between $100 and $200

The Saatva Classic mattress is at the lower end in the luxury mattress market. It is available at an official price of $887 for twins and $2,196 for split Cal king. This Saatva mattress is the most affordable and it costs less than many luxury hybrid innerspring mattresses.

A queen-size Saatva Classic mattress in queen size costs $1,595 (full price). This is $204 less than the luxury Winkbed ($1,799), $104 more than the Layla Hybrid ($1,699), and $354 less than the Helix Midnight Luxe (1,949). Casper's Nova Hybrid queen-size mattress costs $2,995; the Layla Hybrid ($1,699) is $104 cheaper, and the Purple Hybrid Premier starts at $2,699, which is over $1,100 less than Saatva’s hybrid innerspring.

The Saatva Classic, which has high-end features as well as white glove delivery, is at the opposite end of the spectrum. It costs $300 more than mid-range mattresses. For example, the Purple mattress retails at $1,299 for one queen and the Nectar mattress retails at $899. The hybrid innerspring DreamCloud is $1,199.

Here are the prices for all sizes

Twin: $887

Twin XL: $1.098

Full: $1,495

Queen: $1,595

King: $1,995

Splitking: $2,196

Cal King: $2.196

Saatva Classic mattresses are often on sale and you can save $100-$200. Saatva has offered huge discounts, including a 10% discount on all orders, since last summer. It also offered 15% off orders over $2,750 during the Cyber Monday and Black Friday mattress sales.

Saatva Classic mattress: Firmness and Comfort

  • We tested the Luxury Firm version (7/10 rating).
  • Provides excellent pressure relief
  • This mattress is used by sleepers to rest, not'sink in.

There are three levels of firmness available for the Saatva Classic mattress: Luxury Firm, Plush Soft, and Firm. Saatva describes the Plush Soft mattress as contouring and having a body-hugging feeling. It is suitable for side sleepers and lighter-weight sleepers. Luxury Firm, the brand's most loved comfort level, supports all sleeping positions. This is also ideal for co-sleepers with different sleep styles and firmness preferences. The Firm also has a floating on top feel, which is ideal for stomach sleepers, heavier bodies, and those with larger sleeping positions.

The Luxury Firm was put to the test by our review and we found it extremely comfortable while also being firm. The mattress provided pressure relief and the edge support held up well despite being tested for more than a year. The mattress felt like you were sleeping on top of it, with great support and stability. The soft, pillow-top cover was comfortable and didn't sink too much. The dual coil system of the mattress gave it a buoyant feel, with firm support and a bit of bounce.

The Saatva Classic Luxury Firm was suitable for side- and back sleep. However, this mattress is firmer than the Plush Soft. We recommend that you use the 180-night trial period to see if the Plush Soft version suits you better.

Saatva mattress: Performance

  • 7/10 on the firmness scale
  • Buoyant with a little bounce
  • Amazing even after a year

Our performance review has been split into two parts. The first section describes how two of our reviewers discovered the mattress after they had slept on it for two weeks. The second examines how two additional reviewers found Saatva Classic one-year later.

Saatva rates the Saatva Classic luxury-firm mattress medium and estimates it to measure between 5-7 out 10 on the firmness scale (10 being the most firm). The mattress was initially rated between 7 and 10 on the firm side, with a range of 7 to 7.5.

The Saatva Classic luxury-firm mattress was used by two of our reviewers for more than two weeks. Having previously slept on spring and coil mattresses, the mattress took little time to adjust and break in. The mattress was very supportive and comfortable from the first night.

Their lower spines and pressure points, including the shoulders, hips, and knees, felt supported and cushioned. They also found their weight evenly distributed. The soft pillow top was soft and didn't sink too much. While the dual-coil system gave buoyant, firm support with a bit of bounce, it provided buoyant, firm support.

This bounce comes at a cost. The Saatva Classic does not isolate all movement. There is less motion transfer than a memory foam mattress, but it doesn't disturb our sleep. It's an excellent choice for couples. You might consider a memory foam mattress if your partner is particularly restless and inclined to tossing around at night.

The Saatva Classic mattress provided excellent edge support. It allowed our reviewers to comfortably sleep up to the edge of the mattress without feeling sagging or like they were going to roll off. The mattress did not retain heat. The temperature was stable throughout the night.

Our Saatva Classic mattress review gave us a good night's sleep. It was supportive, comfortable, and firm for the duration of our testing. It gets high marks for back and side sleeping.

Saatva Classic mattress review: One year on

Kelly Lilly, owner of Saatva Classic mattress, has slept on it for more than 12 months.

Kelly Lilly

Headshot of Kelly Lilly

Kelly Lilly is a freelance writer, content market writer and digital strategist. She lives on Long Island, NY with her son, husband and dog. We asked her what her mattress looked like one year later.

TG: How many years have you owned the Saatva Classic mattress for?

Kelly Lilly: Just over a year.

Which firmness score would it be?

DKL: I felt it was a 7 [out 10] when it first arrived. It might be 6.5 now. After sleeping on an innerspring mattress that was seven years old, it felt very firm. It feels firmer now, but it's still supportive. I'm fine with that.

How does it feel to lie down?

DKL: This mattress is your bed. I am a side and stomach sleeper. However, I was in my second trimester so I had to be on my side when I got it. Instantly, I felt the pressure relief and support. It doesn't seem to sleep warm or cold, according to my temperature measurements.

My husband sleeps on his stomach and then switches to his side. Our old mattress was causing him back pain. He noticed a decrease in his pain after he started to sleep on the Saatva.

Is there motion transfer? Is this something that has changed in the past?

DKL: Motion transfer was the main reason I bought this mattress. We have different sleeping patterns and my husband and I don't like one of us getting up to get up.

The mattress was firm at the beginning and I didn't feel any movement when he got in or out. Although the pressure in the mattress is different when he's awake, it doesn't feel any different when he's asleep.

I ran my side through the wringer and bounced a screaming baby while sitting on one side of the bed. The edges were still firm.

What is the quality of edge support?

DKL: Edge support was very important to me, and the Saatva Classic provides it in spades.

So that we could both have more space, we bought a king-size bed. My husband, 6'3", sleeps near the edge of this bed a lot. It's supportive and firm so far. It's still firm after I put it through the wringer and bounced and rocked a screaming baby while sitting on the side.

How has the Saatva aged over the years?

DKL: It's more comfortable now that the firmness is less. I still sleep on top, but I sink in a little more. This is difficult to say because I was pregnant at the time I got it. It was quite different from what I experienced when I slept on top. (While the support and pressure relief were amazing during pregnancy, getting into and out of a bed 3 inches higher was more difficult later on.

Would you recommend this mattress?

DKL: It's supportive and comfortable, but it also has a pillow top that makes it feel plush. This mattress is ideal for couples and people who sleep in different positions.

Which score would you assign it out of a possible 10?

DKL: It's a good pressure relief product. The customer service was excellent and the white glove delivery service is a plus. It was also great that there was no off-gassing, so we could rest easy. It was expensive, so I am hopeful it will last. However, the warranty of 15 years made it easy to make the purchase. I don't know how it will hold up over the next few years so I won't give it a 10 or 9.

Saatva Classic mattress: What we didn't like

$99 exchange or return fee

The Saatva Classic mattress was flawless. It is worth noting, however, that Saatva charges $99 for transportation to exchange or return a mattress. This is not a common practice among other mattress companies. For example, the hybrid innerspring DreamCloud mattress ($899) comes with free returns or exchanges. The Helix Midnight mattress and many other top options also come with free returns and exchanges. For more inspiration, see our top organic mattress guide.

Keep in mind that it might take some time for you to adjust to the bounce of the springs if your memory foam mattress is new. Otherwise, you will find little to no adjustment.

The luxury firm version was a great option. Saatva recommends the firm version for stomach sleepers who need extra support or are over 230 lbs. The soft Saatva Classic mattress may be more suitable for people who are lighter (under 130 lbs).

It's easy to swap out your mattress for a firmer one. A new 180-night trial will begin once the exchanged mattress has been delivered. You will need to pay $99 for this.

Body indentations are another thing to be aware of. These are common with most mattresses and will eventually become a problem. The Saatva Classic's steel coils can help prevent this from happening, but the Euro pillow top, which is denser than a standard top, is more likely to leave a mark if you sleep on it for 6-8 hours every night.

This is because the risk of a Saatva mattress bursting at the seams is much lower than that of a pure foam one. However, we recommend rotating the mattress every six months and not sleeping in the exact same spot each night.

Saatva mattress reviews

Score of 4.9/5 based on over 40,000 user reviews

Before finding the right one, some had to adjust their firmness.

Many people say that back pain is gone

The Saatva Classic mattress was loved by our reviewers. However, mattresses are subjective. Your experience with a mattress will depend on how you sleep, your body size, weight, and whether or not you have slept hot. We analyzed thousands of customer reviews to find any common themes and give a better overview of the Saatva Classic mattress.

Most feedback is extremely positive. The Saatva Classic mattress has an average score of 4.9% out of 5 (Feb 2021). This comes from more than 40,000 user views on independent sites such as TrustPilot, Consumer Affairs, TrustPilot, and Google Reviews.

The mattress was cited by many reviewers as the reason for their relief from back and joint pain. Many people commented that their mattress has been with them for more than five years and they still love it. Saatva's customer support also receives high praises, with customers praising their speed and willingness to assist.

We found that many of the negative comments were caused by customers choosing the wrong firmness for them. Many customers responded by saying that Saatva swapped their mattress quickly and that they exchanged the mattress without any problems (for a $99 shipping fee).

Customers have complained of body indentions and sagging over time. Usually, this happens several years ago. Customers are still happy with their service and many customers used their warranty to replace the mattress. There were very few complaints about the mattress's other aspects, including its pillow top, edge support and heat retention.

Do you want to buy the Saatva Classic mattress or another type?

We are happy to say yes. The Saatva Classic mattress is a great choice if you are looking for a high-end mattress that offers exceptional support throughout the mattress, as well as around the edges. It also doesn't retain heat and has minimal motion transfer.

We love the customization options and Saatva's willingness help customers choose the best version. It is also reasonably priced and undercuts the competition by a margin. We also love the convenience of white glove delivery which leaves you with nothing but to make the bed.

We recommend Saatva's Loom & Leaf mattress (849 - $2.379) if you want your mattress to be firm. This premium memory foam model comes in two options: firm or relaxed firm. For a more durable option, you can also choose the all-natural Saatva Latex Hybrid (899 - $$2,199). We think that the Saatva Classic luxury mattress is the best value for money. It offers comfort, design, and is an excellent choice for most people.
