Nectar Mattress Firmness & Feel

Let's look at the Nectar's firmness and how comfortable and supportive it is in various positions. These details will help you decide if the Nectar is right for you.

How firm is the nectar?

The Nectar was a medium-firm 6.5/10 in our experience. The top layer of memory foam is very soft and the layers below it become progressively more firmer. The medium-firm Nectar mattress offers a great balance between support and comfort.

The Nectar: Sleeping on the Nectar

The Nectar's memory foam layers can be felt conforming to our curves when we sleep on it. The base layer provides good support and lumbar support.

Side sleeping is a comfortable position where we feel a little pressure on our hips and shoulders. This may not be the case for heavier or larger sleepers. However, side sleepers will find this mattress to be comfortable. It is also great for pain relief and is one the best mattresses to treat arthritis.

Stomach sleeping is difficult with the Nectar mattress. We can feel our hips and center mass sinking into the mattress. To provide the right support for our whole bodies, we need a firmer mattress. Overall, it is not the best mattress to stomach sleepers.

How does the nectar feel?

The Nectar has a slower-moving feel than many memory foam mattresses. The Nectar allows us to sink slowly into the mattress and feels like our bodies are being molded by it.

Average Weight Sleepers: 130 lbs - 220 lbs

Side and back sleepers of average weight should have the support and comfort they need. Because of its soft memory foam, the Nectar is a great choice for people who are averagely weighed and have hip pain.

For stomach sleeping, most people of average weight will need a supportive mattress. The Nectar mattress is a great choice for stomach and back sleeping.

Heavyweight Sleepers - Over 230 lbs

People who weigh more than 230 lbs can get the support they need back on the Nectar. People who are close to or over 300 lbs may need to look for a mattress with coils.

Side sleepers who are larger will want a mattress that has a thicker comfort layer. They may feel more pressure and firmness on their hips and shoulders if they are heavier.

A mattress that is firmer than the Nectar will be better for stomach sleeping and heavier people. This could cause them to feel their hips sink into the mattress and lead to lower back strain.

Sleepers Lightweight - Less than 130 lbs

Lightweight back and side sleepers should consider the Nectar mattress. They should feel supported and comfortable in both positions. Some stomach sleepers may not need enough support, but most stomach sleepers are still likely to require something more firm.

Nectar Mattress Construction

We will now open the Nectar mattress to see what materials it contains. We'll discuss each layer as well as any outstanding features.

Cover

The Nectar's Cooling Cover, made from polyethylene, is extremely breathable and keeps the top of your mattress cool-to the touch.

Comfort Layers

A layer of gel foam is found right on top of the Nectar Mattress. It's not responsive and takes some time to reform after being pressured. What is gel memory foam? Gel infusion is used to reduce heat trapping properties of memory foam and to add cooling to the mattress' top.

Below the top layer of memory foam, there is a layer made of soft conventional foam. It is thicker and firmer than the top layer. It serves as a transition layer, and helps to ease sleepers into the support layer below.

Support Layer

The Nectar's bottom is covered with a thick layer if support foam. It is very durable and supportive because it is high-density.

The Nectar Adjustable Base is also recommended.

Mattress Height

The Nectar measures 12 inches tall, which is the average height for an all-foam mattress.

Nectar Mattress Performance

The Nectar mattress was subject to a variety of tests regarding cooling, motion transfer and edge support. Continue reading to find out how the Nectar mattress performed.

You can sleep hot or cold.

The Nectar mattress is all-foam so it will trap heat. The Nectar has a cooling cover and memory foam with gel infusion. These materials will keep the mattress' top from getting too hot.

The Nectar did not make us feel particularly hot when we slept there, but it might be an issue for those who are constantly overheating at night. If you are looking for the most cooling mattress, consider a latex or coil-based one.

Motion Transfer

The Nectar is the ideal mattress for couples looking for the best. The Nectar mattress is made with thick, slow-moving memory Foam, which reduces motion transfer.

The Nectar was placed in the middle of the glass. We then moved into the area. Marten sat on one side of Nectar while Tanner rolled on the other. Marten claims that Tanner's movements did not transfer to his side of mattress.

Edge Support

The Nectar mattress only collapses slightly when we sit down; it is secure enough for us to be able to lean back and tie our shoes. We don't feel like we will roll onto the floor if we lay down next to the Nectar mattress. This is a remarkable feature for an all foam mattress.

Durability

The Nectar mattress is all foam and doesn't have any coils or other extra-durable materials like latex. The base layer of foam is high-density and should provide the mattress with some durability. The Nectar's construction should ensure that it lasts between seven and ten year.

Off-gassing

Customers can expect some mattress offgassing because the Nectar is a mattress in a box. The mattress was slightly chemically scented when we opened it. However, it disappeared within 48 hours.

Noise

The Nectar mattress is all foam and did not make any noises when we moved around or changed positions. The bed frame was the only source of creaks and squeaks. It seemed to absorb most sound.

Sex

Couples looking for the best mattress to have sex on a regular basis will want one that is more responsive and allows them to move easily. As they attempt to reposition, sexual partners may feel trapped by the Nectar.

What is the Nectar's Comparability to Other Mattresses

When shopping for a mattress, it is always a smart idea to compare prices. Let's compare the Nectar to its main competitors. Check out our mattress comparison page to compare Nectar with other mattresses. You will find popular comparisons like Nectar and Amerisleep, and Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding.

Nectar vs Purple Mattress

The comfort layers of the Purple and Nectar mattresses are what make them different. The Nectar has soft memory foam while the Purple has a hyper-elastic polymer grid. The Nectar has a slower-moving feel, and provides better pressure relief. Its unique design allows for greater comfort and support.

Marten, our reviewer, gave the mattresses a rating of 6.5/10 for firmness. However, this may differ for different types of sleepers. Some people might feel the Nectar mattress is more firm than the Purple, while others might find it to be softer.

They are both very similar in price so people need to consider their sleeping positions and size when choosing between the two mattresses. For side sleepers and lighter individuals, the Nectar is a better choice. For larger people and combination sleepers who need something durable, the Purple is a better choice.

Nectar vs Casper Mattress

Both the Casper and Nectar are all-foam mattresses. However, they differ in a few ways. The Nectar features memory foam on the top while the Casper has a responsive polyfoam. This is why the Nectar feels slower and the Casper feels more balanced.

The Casper has a Zoned Support system, while the Nectar doesn't. This makes it feel more firm when people are stomach or back sleeping and soft when they are side sleeping.

There will be firmness differences between both mattresses. In our experience, the Nectar mattress was more comfortable than the Casper. While this might be different for lighter or larger sleepers, most people will agree that Nectar is softer.

These differences mean that the Nectar is better suited for side sleepers of light and medium weight, as well as couples who prefer a memory foam feel. For back sleepers, mix sleepers, and for those who like a balanced foam feel, the Casper is better.

Nectar vs Tuft and Needle Mattress

Two popular bed-in a-box mattresses are the Nectar and Tuft and Needle. However, their distinct features should make it easy for you to choose between them. First, let's look at the comfort layers. The Nectar has memory foam, which gives the mattress a slower-moving feel. While the Tuft & Needle has Adaptive Foam, which makes the mattress more responsive and offers a more balanced foam feel.

We rated both mattresses as medium firmness at 6.5/10. These mattresses may feel firmer or more soft depending on one's weight but should feel the same in terms of firmness.

The Tuft and Nectar mattress is more expensive than the Tuft & Needle. The Tuft and Needle mattress is more affordable and offers more comfort than the Nectar. For those who prefer a memory foam feel, or for better pressure relief when side sleeping, the Nectar is better.
